Expertise of the participating organization:

The Movement Disorder Clinic of Rabin Medical Center, Petah Tiqva, Israel, is a tertiary-care facility that treats mainly patients with parkinsonian disorders. The head of the clinic is Dr. Ruth Djaldetti, a senior staff member in the Department of Neurology. Dr. Djaldetti has conducted many clinical and research studies in patients with Parkinson?s disease and MSA. She also gained important experience in basic research on animal models of Parkinson?s disease as a research fellow at Columbia University in New York. The Department of Neurology is headed by Professor Eldad Melamed, a movement disorder specialist. Professor Melamed is also the director of the National Parkinson Foundation (U.S.A), Center of Research Excellence, and of the Laboratory of Neuroscience, Felsenstein Research Center.
The main interest of the laboratory is exploration of the mechanisms responsible for neurodegenerative diseases. Much effort is currently being invested in stem cell transplantation into the striatum in animal models of Parkinson?s disease and plans are underway to expand this approach to models of MSA.
